1973 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL 4.5 V8 W108 Sedan for Sale

Edison, NJ
Jan 01, 2024
This Beauty was born in August of 1972, and it was titled as a 1973 Model, making it one of the last W108 V8 models rolling of the production line! What makes this beauty special is that it is All Original car – Original Paint, Original Interior, and Original Drive Train! Mercedes made only 8,173 280SEL 4.5 V8’s in period from May of 1971 until November of 1972, and this beauty is one of them! Also, 4.5 V8 was only offered to the North American Market, making it particularly desirable in Europe! Add the highly desirable automatic floor shifter to the mix, and you have a something that lots of collectors and Mercedes-Benz Enthusiasts are looking for!Its Original Dark Red (#542G Dunkelrot) paint has a very nice presence, and it makes this German Luxury Sedan look very elegant and timeless! It still has a beautiful shine and luster, and just upon closer inspection you can notice some imperfections and blemishes in the paint (some paint cracking on top of the hood and front fenders – mainly because of engine heat and the fact that paint is original and over 47 years old!). We could have painted the front end, but that would take away from its originality, patina and its overall beauty and the fact that Cars are original only once!Chrome is very nice and complete, with nice and healthy luster and this beautiful sedan is a head turner and conversation piece everywhere it goes. This Mercedes is very solid, and its undercarriage is all original and unmolested! Body is also straight, and all doors, hood, and trunk are operating with ease, with everything lining up as it should. There is not a lot of 280SEL 4.5 V8’s out there in this solid, original and preserved condition! As Mercedes made only a little bit over 8,100 of 4.5 V8 SEL’s, there is not a lot of them left period! Add a rare floor gearshift option, and number of survivors is even smaller! Its original and elegant Black MB-Tex interior shows beautifully! Seats look great and are still comfortable and very supportive. Carpets and headliner are in great shape as well! Also importantly there are no cracks on the dash, and top of the door panels – trait of cars that spent majority of life on the hot sun with no protection! Only thing not original on the inside is updated CD-Player, with Satellite Radio option, which is actually not a bad thing as you can listen to plethora of your favorite tunes, while cruising down the road in this beauty! -Engine Transmission4.5 Liter V8 Engine is strong and powerful as ever! Automatic Transmission shifts smoothly and effortlessly through every gear and this German Yacht handles great, and it is very comfortable. Matching Tires are like brand new, with lots of thread and life left in them! Air Condition works as it should, and this Classic is ready for some fun cruises! There is nothing better than driving down the road in your Classic Mercedes-Benz! This beauty comes complete with its original maintenance books and manuals, original tool set, as well as the Original Temporary registration from the first owner who purchased it back on March 6th of 1973!Bottom line is that this is a very nicely kept, unmolested, original and complete Mercedes SEL, that has a lot of potential, making it a wonderful investment! 1972 Jaguar XJ6 Series I Sedan for Sale

This is a really pretty XJ6 Jaguar sedan out-fitted in Silver with grey Connolly hide interior with blue carpets. The overall combination presents very elegantly indeed. She is very " dry" without the typical ingress of heavy rust and scale. Photos of the underside show just how clean the car is underneath. The body on this car is straight. Looking under the hood and trunk is evident of its originality. The car has been repainted at some stage (same colour) and presents well for driver quality and use. There are some minor marks, blemishes and chips here and there from normal use but overall presents shiny and clean. To make it clear, it is not of any show quality standards but presents well being generally consistent overall. Being a 1972 year, I do like the all Euro style chrome bumpers and over-riders. By 73, these were already changing over to the impact style. The interior of the car is in great condition with excellent Connolly hide leather upholstery finished in the light grey which is perhaps better described as a " blue grey" colour. The leather has a wonderful patina to it giving the car a very nice classic look, yet without any tears rips or holes. A perfectionist who might like the leather to look " new' could have it redyed but I think it looks best left as its is. All the wood on the dash is original and in very good condition. There are hairline cracks in the finish but these are so consistent that they look ok! Compared to the average example, without any delaminating of the lacquer, it way exceeds typical and I would rate it 8 out of 10. The door cappings are good. There is no sagging or marks in the headlining. It appears to be relatively new. The carpet is in excellent shape and is the original fitment Jaguar velour pile. The rich wood in this example contrasts beautifully with the grey hides and blue carpet – making the interior of this car very rich and inviting. All interior chrome finishes are nice. Overall she looks wonderful with a nice classic patina look. Interior features and functions are operational including electrics – windows, lights, gauges, etc. With exception; the fuel gauge requires the obligatory " tap-tap" the A/C needs recharging but the system is functioning with compressor working well (guaranteed) and the clock is narcissistic. Everything is generally clean and crisp. All the knobs, centre switches, control knobs levers, radio and surrounding aluminium finishers are in great shape and look quasi brochure look. Interior chrome, stainless steel and bright work finishes are all good without any pitting. The " Jaguar" grill badge is gorgeous. Mechanically, the car is good condition and the clean and original presentation under the bonnet clearly shows that. The engine runs strong and the trans changes smooth. Recent services include new brake hoses, new brake pads and brake general service. New front shock bushing were also fitted and carburetors rebuilt and engine tuned. The front-end feels tight and power steering light and smooth. No leaks - the car is very dry underneath - which is rare for a Jaguar! (see underside pix). Exhaust is good with the correct looking exhaust tips fitted. The car is fitted with a set of period correct looking 205/70-15 whitewall tires (with some 80-90% tread). The left gas tank needs cleaning out and so the car is only operating on the right tank. Otherwise, this is a Jaguar that appears to be free of their usual nuances and typical issues of its age. The 25,000 miles is not verifiable but everything about the car certainly supports it to be a low mileage example. Used 1972 Jaguar XJ 24,200 miles This is a really pretty XJ6 Jaguar sedan out-fitted in Silver with grey Connolly hide interior with blue carpets.
