The original, 325-horsepower, 396-cu. in. OHV V8 (see photo of the block VIN stamp and code) block was bored.040-inch over, and the previous owner, who's been a mechanic for 40 years, fitted it with the refurbished stock crankshaft and connecting rods and new Keith Black forged pistons. He chose the camshaft for the 350-hp 396 engine, and hardened exhaust valve seats were installed in the Oval-port heads during their reconditioning. This SS 396's body was media blasted, and he replaced the rusted quarter panels and fenders with NOS GM parts, and welded in a new trunk floor and wheelhouses.
