1955 Chrysler 300 Series C300 Coupe 2-Door Hardtop1955 55 Chrysler 300 Restored Hotrod A518 Transmission 468 V8This beauty has 3 owners including me. The previous owner of this 300 tried to blend the new with the old while maintaining the original look. Because he was very involved in the local racing scene, speed was very important to him. Back in the 1980s, he decided to make this Chrysler really perform by replacing the motor, transmission, and rear end. The 331 CID stock engine was replaced with a 392 CID block bored to 468 CID. Other engine modifications include:5/8-inch Stroker Roller camshaft Smith Brothers adjustable push rods Forged steel rods Hot aluminum cylinder heads and valve covers Sanderson 500 hp headers Wyatt Intake manifold for two four-barrel Edelbrock 600 cfm carburetors Forged aluminum pistons MSD ignition The transmission is a Mopar A518 automatic overdrive. The rear end is Ford 9-inch 4:11 with Detroit locker. The drivability of this car is fantastic. Very smooth and fast with a well-balanced horsepower to rear end ratio. It shifts properly, responds with authority, and is very very fast. It holds great oil pressure and does not have any heating problems. This car has been completely serviced and is ready to go. The underside of the car is rust free and very solid. There is slight bubbling of the paint ahead of the rear wheel well. See pictures. The original leather interior looks like it has been redyed, but it is intact and very presentable. An aftermarket racing tachometer was installed on the steering column. The radio and the heater are not operational. This car was professionally repainted in 1980. The paint shows great patina but is also showing its age -- nicks, scratches, and spider webbing. Please see pictures. All the chrome, stainless, and glass are very presentable. It appears the wire wheels are factory correct with the chrysler insignia inside the hubcap, but the wheels and hubcap show some deterioration and pitting. Very interesting one off example of a racer/driver, mechanically running Mercedes W113 SL. The car has been in our family since 2007 in dry storage. The dealer I purchased it from believed it to be a " retired race car" as evidenced by the competition-style gas tank with the fill spout in the trunk and the fact that many of the trim parts are plastic; the interior has also been stripped to save weight. There are also Mercedes trophies that came with this vehicle in the trunk. This specially fitted with the Mercedes 110 twin cam workhorse engine, four speed manual transmission. This car has several new parts: brake master cylinder reservoir (brakes need service from sitting), new clutch slave and master cylinder, ( both need service from sitting. ) Please notice bundt-style Mercedes alloy wheels. This looks like the LOGO CAR for the former Pagoda group web site race car number 39—use your imagination and install a roll bar and decals on the doors and you're off to the races. Car came with no steering wheel; we obtained an OK OEM one to use. We also changed the racing style toggle ignition switch to a universal keyed one to make it more street legal. The car has not been driven on the road since we bought it. Paint has some minor scratches - a dime size blister on hood (pictured) and some misfired clear coat (probably buff out) - hood will have to be realigned and eventually possibly repainted. One longer scratch on left side front fender towards the bottom. Car has no exterior chrome trim except for trunk star, again probably as as a weight-saving measure for racing purposes. Car needs windlass therefore windows are loose in their tracks. Driver's window is race-ready plexiglass and needs some hardware tightening. Interior looks OK for 50 year-old car. Headliner needs to be cleaned. We found a parcel box and ashtray and installed. The Belgium coupe kinder seat was also present when we purchased the car. This was most likely installed after the roll bar was removed. The seat belts need to be reinstalled. There is some wear and tear on doors and dash. Stainless steel plates are installed where the radio would mount and on the dash where the ducts for the heater would be —these elements were all removed, again for racing weight. Clock present but not working, all other gauges are present. Vinyl seat covers are ok for driver-level car; non-original carpet, comes with a set of beige cloth racing seat covers. There are obvious repairs on the floor underneath that seem presentable. We installed a new W107 fuel pump to get the car running. Most tools and bag are in the trunk with a scissor jack and, original rubber floor mats. Car has no rust. Has hard top only. Some chrome trim pieces are missing, but easily replaceable. Please keep in mind this is a very interesting antique. OEM parts are readily available for this W113 Mercedes along with the very easily obtained W123 Mercedes parts for the engine and trans and it does not have any of the anti-smog devices to slow it down. Overall this is a driver car that runs — as I said brakes and clutch need to be redone from sitting. With a little restoration this car can be a cool head turner. Racing type muffler gives it a throaty sound. In the summer time just remove hardtop and go. This is your chance to own a piece of undefined racing history.
